Scotland’s boarding schools have been delivering great education for generations. Known for their strong traditions, high academic standards, and outstanding pastoral care, these schools are now turning their focus outward—making it easier and more welcoming for families from around the world to choose Scotland.

Scotland offers world-famous scenery, ancient castles, vibrant festivals, world-class hospitality, and a rich cultural heritage that families love to explore. For many international parents, sending their child to school here comes with a wonderful bonus: the perfect excuse to keep coming back to a country they already love.

That’s the aim of the Scottish Schools Collective: making it easier for families worldwide to choose Scotland as their destination for education.

Why a Collective?

In today’s global education landscape, Scottish schools are not in competition with each other. Each one is distinct defined by its heritage, strengths, and values. Yet they share a common goal: to attract and support international families in choosing Scotland.

The true challenge lies beyond our borders. Scotland’s schools are competing with institutions in England, Switzerland, Canada, the U.S. and more. And when families choose a school, their decision is influenced not only by academic excellence, but by ease of access, safety of travel, and a sense of trust from the moment the journey begins.

That’s where the collective comes in.

Collaboration Enabled by I-GTM

At the heart of this initiative is I-GTM, a travel data platform built specifically for boarding schools. I-GTM ensures that schools can gather, verify, and coordinate the travel details of every boarder, offering a shared infrastructure to manage transport logistics, airport guardianship, and chaperone support.

Each school retains its autonomy—but by working together, they make Scotland more accessible, more reassuring, and more appealing to global families.

Access is a key driver in international enrolment decisions. The journey starts at home—and through the Scottish Schools Collective, we’re ensuring it ends with a warm and well-managed welcome in Scotland.

What Drives Enrolment Decisions?

  • Heritage and tradition
  • Academic excellence
  • Values and ethos
  • Location and setting
  • Sport and co-curricular provision
  • University destinations
  • Alumni networks and reputation
  • Immigration simplicity and support
  • Safety, wellbeing, and belonging

The Role of I-GTM

Airport Guardians team

I-GTM provides the software platform that allows this collaboration to happen.

As the UK’s leading provider of travel record-keeping and transport management for boarding school pupils, I-GTM offers a shared digital framework that connects schools, parents, and transport providers—ensuring clear oversight, seamless coordination, and student safety.

Importantly, I-GTM also helps schools easily meet their duty of care to travelling students and, in doing so, naturally satisfies UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) requirements. These regulations are critical, as schools must maintain their ability to issue Certificates of Acceptance for Study (CAS) to international pupils.

The Outcome: Opening Travel Corridors

  • Chaperone-supported flights between London Heathrow (LHR) and Edinburgh
  • Airport Guardians based at Edinburgh and London Heathrow Airports
  • Onward transport coordination (taxis, shared transport, coaches)
  • Support for U14 students flying unaccompanied on eligible British Airways flights

These services are designed to provide:

  • Safety and reassurance for families
  • A consistent and professional welcome for students
  • A trusted network on both ends of the journey

2025 Launch Timeline

  • Airport Guardians Edinburgh go live: August/September 2025
  • Chaperone flights on LHR–EDI route: Key school travel dates
  • Live platform integration with partner schools
